This "predictive policing" technology will allow us to be proactive rather than reactive in responding to crime, driven by data.

@WillSeattle we will deploy this in all five precincts, and our officers will go wherever that data tells us officers are needed.

@WillSeattle @mayormcginn We'll begin in E and SW precincts but will expand to N as well. This is about using officers we have more wisely.

@WillSeattle @mayormcginn With dozens of new police officers being hired this year, N will get a fair share! Sean Whitcomb

@mayormcginn That a proprietary blend of "predictive policing" doesn't require many data points to drive LEO deployment should be worrisome.

@benlile @mayormcginn Program is data based so it will adapt as benefits are realized. We look forward to positive results and less crime!

@SeattlePD @mayormcginn As a resident of a high crime hood (CD) this type of data driven policing is awesome. Is the data being used public?
SeattlePDSeattle Police Dept.
@Proeat @mayormcginn @jseattle I believe he did. Movie was good too. At least we don't have to build a swimming pool and hire 'pre-cogs'.

@mayormcginn @SeattlePD what is the legal status of someone who is predicted to commit a crime? Does that count as "reasonable suspicion"?
jonathanstrayjonathanstray
@Badger32d Not necessarily insane. The question is, how does algorithm compare to police officer's judgment? At least it's systematic.

@mayormcginn @jonathanstray @seattlepd does the data use arrests or only convictions? Does it lower the weighting on plea-bargains?

@mayormcginn @jonathanstray @seattlepd if the program is using data produced through biased human actions, it is hard to remove that bias
