@ngreenberg MVP tells us how what % better that player makes his team in the Standings for his role and position over an AHL call-up.
Marc_ApplebyMarc Appleby
@ngreenberg yes he's earning 10% EXTRA points in the standings so far for #caps with his ice-time/play over a replacement dmen.
ngreenbergNeil Greenberg
@Marc_Appleby five points since Nov 4 does that? Carlson has 16 points since then, shouldn't he be more valuable? Am I missing something?
Marc_ApplebyMarc Appleby
@ngreenberg all stats considered, Carlson is 7% MVP (3.6 point sharesr) & Wideman's 9% MVP (3.9 PS) make them #3 and #1 on the #caps this yr
ngreenbergNeil Greenberg
@Marc_Appleby don't think case can be made, esp statistically - which I'm extremely familiar with - Wideman > Backstrom, Alzner, Carlson.
ngreenbergNeil Greenberg
@Marc_Appleby Wideman isn't even best puck mover on the Caps blueline, but his "experience" and giveaways puts him over the top. Not sold.
Marc_ApplebyMarc Appleby
@ngreenberg correct, sample was every game/player since 1997 once RTSS came in, pros/cons to every approach. We're taking 30,000ft GM view
Marc_ApplebyMarc Appleby
@ngreenberg I can appreciate ur disagreement:) MVP stat is new this yr for us so we r tracking it closely & in process of making adjustments
ngreenbergNeil Greenberg
@Marc_Appleby Wideman gets soft minutes and doesn't do well with them. I think by using boxcar stats from RTSS you are getting junk results.
ngreenbergNeil Greenberg
@Marc_Appleby Ex: Wideman has 13 less giveaways, but on ice & team sees 49% of scoring chances in their favor. Carlson, 54% vs stiffer opp.
Marc_ApplebyMarc Appleby
@ngreenberg top defencemen have high assists, low-PIM, low giveaways, over 400GP experience, high blocked shots, lots of ice time
